Do you have a compost bin or wormery? Would you like to take the work out of composting and have even better compost?

Using composting worms which are also fishing worms you can improve the performance of your compost bin or wormery, speed up the composting process, produce high quality nutrient rich compost, improve your garden soil and plants and help the environment! By using composting worms, that is, denddrobaena fishing worms, to break down your compost your plants and flowers will flourish!

Worm composting has long been used in the United States and Australia as an effective and natural way of recycling kitchen and garden waste into rich organic compost or “black gold” Composting worms eat kitchen and garden waste and turn it into “worm cast” a highly nutritious compost containing growth-promoting substances. This compost plays an essential role in feeding and maintaining the soil.

Worms are so important that Charles Darwin called them “the most important animal in the history of the world”. Unfortunately the overuse of insecticides and weed killers has discouraged our native earthworms. Simply place the composting worms and the bedding they arrived in on the top of your compost bin and wait a few weeks. The composting worms will eat your waste and excrete it. What remains are very fine particles known as ‘worm cast’ This worm cast is highly nutritious for plants and flowers. It is also excellent for breaking up heavy clay soil.

Dendrobaena worms or dendros which are also used for catching a variety of fish are used for composting. These fishing worms can be bought from Leansmount worms.

Lob worms – Fertilise your soil the natural way with burrowing lob worms!   Is your soil in need of a tonic? Have you noticed a scarcity of worms in your garden? Have you moved into a new development and noticed the soil is in poor condition?

Unfortunately worms are now less abundant in our soil. Overuse of weed killers and insectides, intensive farming and the arrival of the predatory flatworm have all taken their toil. With Lob worms you can enrich and restore soil as nature intended!

Soil restoration with worms has long been used in Holland, a country known for its good husbandry. More recently, the successful Edam project that transformed a Cornish quarry into a centre of horticultural excellence introduced garden worms to help their soil.

How do lob worms work? Lob worms live below ground but come to the surface to eat at night. The process of moving up and down, up and down, aerates the soil, helps drainage, pulls fallen leaves down to the lower levels, breaks up clay soil and binds sandy soil. Lob worms also produce “worm cast” a highly nutritious compost containing growth-promoting substances – sometime known as “black gold”. This compost plays an essential role in feeding and maintaining the soil. In fact worms take the hard work out of gardening!

Lob worms which are a popular fishing worm are also known as “Canadian Nightcrawlers”

There are different types of metal and plastic lures that can be used for fishing. But nothing can substitute the living fishing worms. You can dig for these fishing worms or buy them from reputed companies like Paul Downing of Leansmount Worms. While choosing worms for fishing, you have to consider the season, appetite and location of the fish you want to catch.

A common type of fishing worm is the lob worm or Canadian Nightcrawler. It has a tough skin and can live for a long period of time with refrigeration. The segmented, dull red fishing worms are about three to four inches long. The lob worms are very appealing to fish of various sizes but are particularly good for catching large salmon and eels.

Bloodworm is the best kind of bait for striped bass, usually in the spring season. It is also good for kingfish, weakfish, porgies and winter flounder depending on the season when you are fishing. Bloodworms are thin and are deep burgundy coloured. They grow from two inches to eighteen inches and have to be stored in refrigerators. You have to be careful with these worms as they might bite.

Another popular kind of fishing worm is the dendrobaena worm or dendros for short. These fishing worms are red / brown in colour. They can stay alive without refrigeration and they even enjoy a certain amount of heat (not more than 18 degrees). They can be used in all the seasons when purchased from reliable companies like Leansmount Worms.

If you want to get the most out of your first fishing experience, there are few essential items that you should consider purchasing, like fishing worms, a rod, and the proper clothing. When you are going afloat, it is crucial to wear life jacket, glasses and a hat for your safety.

If you are planning to go fishing in lakes, purchase a rod of about ten or eleven feet. When you want to go to the rivers, purchase a rod that is around eight to nine feet in length. If you want to catch trout, you must remember that other anglers might be there trying to catch other fish like salmon or pike.

If you are using the spinning method for fishing, purchase a lightweight rod around eight to ten feet in length. Most of the towns in Ireland have tackle shops, where you can get information about the appropriate fishing method you should use in that particular area. You can also contact these shops for information regarding fishing permits in local lakes and rivers.

The island of Ireland has a temperate climate with frequent rains. The rainfall provides an excellent environment for trout and salmon fishing. When you are fishing, you should also consider the temperature, barometric pressure, water levels and the prevailing weather in the region where you want to fish. If it is raining heavily, make sure your wear waterproof clothing. Along with the safety equipment, remember to keep a good stock of fishing worms. Dendros or dendrobaena worms are the worms of choice for salmon and trout. These fishing worms can be bought online from Paul Downing of Leansmount Worms.

Along with rods, bait and fishing worms, a hook is also an important equipment that you should purchase when you go fishing. The most essential thing to consider when you are choosing a hook is the kind of fish you want to catch. If you want to fish in seas, you can purchase big hooks, but if you are fishing in the rivers and lakes of Ireland, you can purchase hooks that are small.

You can choose hooks based on your fishing activity as well. If you are only going to practice release and catch, then go for circle hooks. They mostly hook the mouth of the fish, to prevent causing any harm to the fish. When you are choosing hooks based on the baits, make sure that the bait and the hook are of the same size. Before you purchase the hook at a hook or a bait store, make sure you ask the store owner for his inputs.

When you purchase hooks for trout fishing, you should consider the size of the hook. To catch the trout, use fishing hooks that are small. They should be between sizes 8 to 10. Remember that it is important to purchase a small hook because it should not be visible to the trout. Irrespective of how you fish and where you fish, keep in mind that you should choose the right kind and size of hook, along with the fishing worms, rods and reels.

Is it true that the best time to catch fish is when it is raining? Well in my opinion the rain is very important when it comes to catching fish but there are other factors that are equally important. Fishermen and women looking for fish particularly salmon are certainly reliant on frequent rain to swell the rivers and encourage fresh fish to run in from the sea. The rivers need rain on a regular basis if they are to fish well. Therefore the dedicated angler will watch for any hint of rain and follow the weather forecast closely.

However rain is not the only factor. Heavy rain fall bringing on a sudden flood in a river might bring in some fish but the fish are unlikely to bite at the height of the flood. The height of the river is another crucial factor influencing whether fish will be caught. If the river is too high or too low the fish will not bite either. The time to catch fish is when the spate starts to run off and the water begins to clear.

Other things to remember is that a dull overcast day is better than a sunny one as fish don’t like too much sun and tend to take cover in deep dark water far below the surface. It is also said that fish do not like water that is too warm as it makes them sluggish and puts them off their food. If you are going to fish in warm weather then early morning or late in the evening is best.

Other factors which might influence whether you catch fish or not include a change in atmospheric conditions such as a drop in wind strength or a change in wind direction, the passing of a thunderstorm, a rise in temperature either water or air and a change of light.

The fishing worms you use will also determine your success in catching fish. Fishing worms are very popular and have a proven track record. Many anglers have caught fish using dendros or lob worms (also known as European Night crawlers) from Leansmount Worms, a reasonably priced and reputable supplier. Our fishing worms really do catch fish!

To summarise then, rain is important if you want to catch fish but river height, cloud cover, changes in atmospheric pressure and the type of fishing bait or fishing worms you use will also have an impact. Sometimes it comes down to grit and determination so remember the old adage, if at first you don’t succeed try try again!

Obesity is becoming a real problem in the UK where thousands of people are overweight, placing them at greater risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, or strokes. Anything that gets people taking exercise will help to reduce obesity and is therefore a good thing.

This is where fishing comes in. It might not be the first sport you think about when you think of health benefits but fishing involves quite a bit of exercise. Many good fishing spots are off the beaten track and inaccessible to cars so a good bit of walking is necessary. Furthermore, the Angler, carrying a fishing rod and fishing worms will often walk the river bank trying to catch fish.

Fishing is also good for your mental outlook. It provides a chance to get away from it all; a chance to put your troubles aside for a while. This relaxes your mind and when you return to whatever was worrying you it doesn’t seem so daunting anymore.

In these days of computer games and social media fishing with your son or daughter is an excellent way of building relationships and spending time together. It also helps to get your kids active – off the sofa and away from the computer screen.

At Leansmount Worms we can provide you with all the fishing worms you need to keep you active and on the riverbank for days!

Fishing is a very popular activity in Ireland. Most of the legitimate fishing methods are allowed in the rivers here, including the use of fishing worms and fly fishing. If the currents are right then fishing worms are usually good bait in these rivers. No matter how you fish, you should use fishing worms provided by reliable suppliers like Leansmount Worms for a good catch.

Irish rivers are divided into limestone and acidic. When it comes to fly fishing, limestone rivers are suitable to fish nymph or upstream dry fly. On the other hand, acidic streams are suitable for wet fly fishing. In June, it is important that you wait for the evening rise, since trout and heavy fish keep moving during this time. You can catch a lot of fish in the final phase of evening rise.

Before fishing in Irish lakes, it is important to know if the fishing method you are using is allowed in that particular region. Some anglers use trolling, which involves the drawing of a fishing line, with one or more hooks attached, through the water from a moving boat. This method can catch a large amount of fish. In lakes like Lough Ennell, fishing continues up to early October. For the best fishing experience in Ireland’s lakes, you should hire a boat and cover the entire water body properly. If you want to have fun and catch a lot of fish, make sure you purchase fishing worms from a reputed company like Leansmount Worms.

There are companies who advertise that they will show you how to grow worms commercially. They will sell you the worms and the know how to breed the fishing worms. They will buy the worms back from you and advise you on the possible markets for your fishing worms, for example, tackle shops, local councils for composting and football pitches for soil restoration.

In my experience these Companies are running scams. The people selling you this package do not provide you with the correct information to grow the worms. In fact it is extremely difficult to grow worms. Worms will not thrive unless the conditions are exactly right. What is more likely to happen is that the worms will crawl away the first night of heavy rain. Or they will come to the surface and die because the bedding is toxic for them. Growing worms is a specialised occupation and successful worm breeders guard their secrets closely.

The market for worms is generally restricted to anglers and anglers do 80% of their fishing in the summer months. In other words, worm breeding is seasonal. I am not aware of any football pitch ever having used commercially grown worms to irrigate their soil. In fact, the worms used for soil improvement (lobs) are a completely different species to those promoted in these schemes (dendrobaenas).

Local authorities have experimented with worms for composting and while it does work it does not work fast enough to break down the large amounts of waste they have to deal with. Most local authorities have dismissed vermicomposting as a solution to large scale waste management. These worm growing schemes are sometimes targeted at farmers who are seeking to diversify from more traditional farming. Many of these people do not carry out proper market research. They do not for example realise that every tackle shop in their area will already have a supplier of worms.

Many people have had their fingers burnt with these schemes. Caution is needed before embarking on a worm growing business because fishing worms are not easy to grow. If you do decide to go ahead, do not buy in large quantities until you are confident your fishing worms will not crawl away. Finally check out your market and competition before parting with your hard earned cash!
